  • Take your general education courses seriously! Take courses in a variety of subjects to discover what areas motivate you and spark your enthusiasm.
  • Talk to advisors, faculty and friends in various majors - gather lots of information! Staff of the UAC are an excellent resource - make time to meet with an advisor!
  • Spend some time reading the Undergraduate Catalog. Look at various majors' requirements and course descriptions. As you go through the catalog, circle the course descriptions that sound most interesting to you.
  • Take a class in a field that interests you. Ask faculty or advisors for guidance on which courses offer the best exploration opportunities. Additionally, research the variety of career options associated with the wide-range of KU majors.
  • Visit the University Career Center. Talk with a career counselor and check out resources on majors or occupations you find interesting.
  • Schedule "informational interviews" with professionals or professors in the field(s) in which interest you. You'll be able to get a taste of day-to-day activities and the work environment of particular occupations. Ask your advisors or career counselors for more information on how to conduct informational interviews.
  • Attend a meeting of a student or professional organization related to a field you are interested in; see how comfortable and interested you are in the subjects discussed and with the people involved.
  • Go online and check out websites that offer information on careers and majors.
