Hello, I'm Shanda Hurla. I am an Assistant Director in the University Advising Center. I am here to assist you in making educated choices at KU. I am happy to help you with any academic issues or other concerns about classes, roommates, or where to go for help at KU. I can also help you plan your schedule and discuss the vast resources and opportunities available to students here at KU. As the Assistant Director, I have the opportunity to work with 20 KU students that serve as peer advisors in the UAC. The peer advisors work part-time in our office to assist new students in their academic transition to KU. For more information about UAC peer advisors, see the link below:
My background includes a B.A. in Journalism and Mass Communications and a minor in Political Science from Kansas State University. While at K-State I studied abroad in Zacatecas and Cuernavaca, Mexico. Studying abroad was a wonderful experience for me during college and I love to discuss study abroad opportunities available to students at KU.
I completed my Master's degree in Higher Education Administration here at KU. Other details about me: I am a first-generation college student, I was a transfer student, I grew up on a farm near Iola, Kansas, I enjoy snow skiing, and I love academic advising.
