Jody Johnson

Associate Director

I grew up in rural northwest Oklahoma (Goltry: population 300), and my graduating class had 24 students. I was a first-generation college student, following my three older siblings in pursuit of higher education. The most important part of my college experience was my undergraduate, general education coursework—it opened my mind to a new way of looking at the world. My professors honed my intellectual skills while teaching me to live as a good citizen of the world.

In graduate school, I studied the social and philosophical foundations of education at Rutgers University in New Jersey, earning a Master of Education degree. I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in religion from Oklahoma Baptist University, a small liberal arts college in central Oklahoma. My higher education experience includes stints in admissions, financial aid and scholarships, advising and student retention.

I like to cook, especially for college students, and have written a cookbook for college students and young professionals. The rest of my free time is filled with creative writing, playing the piano, and reading historical fiction. And though by design I’m not terribly athletic, I have been known to challenge my daughters in highly competitive backyard badminton and drive-way basketball.

The least you can do in life is to know what you hope for.
