New college students like yourselves should plan to take mathematics during your first semester at KU unless you have fulfilled the requirement through transfer credit or advanced placement (AP). Taking math right away in college is strongly encouraged not only to fulfill important major requirements, but also to maximize your memory and to utilize the math skills you bring most recently from high school or community college.

Mathematics is an important part of being a well-rounded and knowledgable student and future KU graduate! We hope you will find the information about math placement, course descriptions and sample tests helpful in assisiting your decision about the math course that is right for you. Good luck!
