Students at the University of Kansas who are considering a career in nursing can receive special guidance from faculty and advisors through the University Advising Center (UAC). The services provided through the UAC focus primarily on assisting students in completing tthe requirements for admission to the
School of Nursing at KU's Medical Center. Students who plan to complete their nursing degree at other institutions also receive assistance from faculty and advisors in the UAC. Because of the competitive nature of nursing programs, students are encouraged to keep their options open and apply to a variety of nursing schools.
Pursuing a pre-nursing major at KU means that you will complete a minimum of 62 hours (approximately 2 years) of required courses at the main campus in Lawrence, and then complete your Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) at KU or another institution. Click on the links above for more detailed information on required courses, admissions criteria, and advising.
As one recent School of Nursing graduate said,
"Nursing takes a lot of hard work, responsibility and compassion, but the rewards make it all worth it. It's the best!"
