The following is a sample schedule of courses that students can take at KU during their first two years as a pre-nursing student:


Freshmen Year
Fall:
  • ENGL 101 - Composition (3)
  • BIOL 100 - Principles of Biology (3)
  • BIOL 102 - Principles of Biology Lab (1)
  • MATH 101 - College Algebra (3)
  • And one additional class - see list below
Spring:
  • ENGL 102 - Composition & Literature (3)
  • CHEM 125 - College Chemistry (5)
  • And two additional classes -see list below
The following list of courses can be taken at any point during the freshman or sophomore years. However, they need to be completed prior to final admission into the School of Nursing:
  • Child Development - ABSC 160 or PSYC 333
  • Nutrition - HSES 330
  • Psychology - PSYC 104
  • Sociology or Anthropology - SOC 104 or SOC 160 or ANTH 100 or ANTH 104 or ANTH 108
  • Speech - COMS 130 or COMS 150 or COMS 230
  • Statistics - MATH 365 or PSYC 300
  • A humanities course
  • Elective(s)
Sophomore Year
The following courses may be taken either semester of this year:
  • BIOL 200 - Basic Microbiology (3)
  • BIOL 203 - Microbiology Lab (2)
  • BIOL 240 - Human Anatomy Lecture (3)
  • BIOL 241 - Human Anatomy Lab: Observation (2) or
    242 - Human Anatomy Lab: Dissection (3)
  • BIOL 246 - Principles of Human Physiology: lab not required (3)

A total of 62 semester hours of credit required in order to be admitted to KU's School of Nursing. A minimum GPA of 2.5 is required in order to apply to the School of Nursing.
