Welcome to the University Advising Center. My name is Dan McCarthy, and I am an Academic Advisor. This means it is my responsibility to help you develop as a student during your time at KU. I have a great deal of experience directing students toward achievement of their goals; primarily because of the winding path I have taken.
I am new to Lawrence. After teaching at the State University of New York College at Brockport for the last two years, while earning a Masters Degree in English, to compliment my Bachelors Degree in Poetry from the State University of New York College at Oswego, I moved to Kansas with my wife. I have worked with the University of Rochester's Warner School of Education, the Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics at Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado, substitute taught primary and secondary classes in Penfield, New York, wrote book reviews in Inside Lacrosse Magazine, earned AWP nominations in poetry, fiction, and essay, worked as a mason and landscaper, presented at symposiums on William Faulkner and Jean Baudrillard, sold newspapers at Denver International Airport, and co-founded the Pressed-Tin Press. I understand the value of a liberal arts education.
My wife and I live in Lawrence with our cats Itty, as in Bitty Kitty, which I did not name, and Cow, not named by me either.
I look forward to meeting you once you make an appointment by calling me at 864-2898 or emailing me at ddmcmcc@ku.edu.
