Hello! My name is Melanie Privat. I am an academic advisor for the University Advising Center.
I grew up in a small town near Emporia, KS and transferred twice before attending the University of Kansas. I earned my Bachelor of General Studies degrees in Psychology and Sociology. I stayed at KU to earn my Master of Science degree in Counseling Psychology.
After working at the University Career Center as a graduate student, I fell in love with working with students and helping them achieve their goals. After graduation, I taught Career and Life Planning courses at Johnson County Community College and also worked in their career center.
I missed KU, though, so now I am back!
As a first generation college student and transfer student from a small town, I can empathize with the anxiety and fear that accompany going to a big university. I am here to help you transition into this new experience in your life.
In my free time, I enjoy gardening, walking, lunches with friends, reading and spending time with my husband and baby boy.
